Cove Beach Road — Sheffield Lake, Ohio

The Cove Beach Road project was the first major capital improvement project undertaken by the City of Sheffield Lake as part of its stormwater utility program. The project provided flooding relief to Warren Guenther Park located in the southern section of the city.

Due to the large amount of off-site drainage, 42” and 48” conduit was required to convey the water along Cove Beach Road north to Lake Erie. The large conduit and existing utilities dictated that the most cost-effective location for the sewer was along the centerline of the roadway. KS Associates worked with the city to obtain State of Ohio Issue 2 funding to finance roadway improvements.

While considering options for the roadway improvements, the city wanted to improve the area’s aesthetic elements. Additionally, because this was the first stormwater utility project, the city wanted to make Cove Beach the model street from which future improvements would be benchmarked. As a result, KS Associates designed the project to include curb and gutter, sidewalks and concrete aprons.

KS Associates worked with the city to obtain State of Ohio Issue 2 funding to finance roadway improvements for this $1,197,000 project.
