LOR-57-12.54 Bridge Replacement, ODOT District 3

KS Associates developed plans and specifications for the replacement of two three-span bridges over the Black River with a new superstructure. The project is located 0.13 mile north of Grafton Road in Eaton Township, Ohio.

The project included replacing the concrete slab and portions of the abutments on the LOR-57-12.54 parallel bridges (L&R). Work included new approach slabs, bridge railing and approach pavement. The project also required minor roadway work to transition the new profile of the bridge and the approach slabs.

KS developed a custom design vs. using the ODOT Standard Drawing. This approach reduced the amount of materials required for project, thereby reducing construction costs and contributing to the selection of the project team — services were performed for ODOT District 3 under a design build contract with The Ruhlin Company.

Final plans were delivered in August 2010 and construction was completed in the Spring of 2011. The project was constructed in phases to maintain one lane of traffic in each direction at all times.

KS also provided surveying services for the design of the superstructure by obtaining existing bridge deck elevations.
