KS Associates performed design, surveying, permitting, and construction phase services for improvements at the Orib Marina, a private marina located in Marblehead, Ohio. The goal of the project was to accommodate larger recreational boats by constructing new docks and increasing water depths in the marina to a safe navigable depth.
The project called for construction of new fixed steel docks; a new boathouse bay, which required dredging of the marina; and construction of a temporary cofferdam to dewater the marina and maintain a dry condition during construction. The project was executed in two phases:
Phase 1 – Phase 1 of the project included topographic surveying, hydrographic surveying, and mapping to locate and identify features above the waterline and to obtain elevations below the water surface; the design of eight new pile-supported fixed steel docks and a new bay on the existing pile-supported boat house; calculating dredging quantities; and preparing applications for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Ohio Department of Natural Resources permits.
Dredging operations included removing approximately 772 cubic yards of silt and 1,138 cubic yards of limestone bedrock from the marina basin.
Phase 2 – Phase 2 included design, bidding, and construction phase services. KS Associates prepared final plans and specifications for bidding, managed the bid process, negotiated construction contracts on behalf of the marina owner, and performed construction observation and reporting.
