On Friday, May 27, 2016, The Cleveland Metroparks held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and celebrated the launch of its new Water Taxi Service in Cleveland’s Flats District. KS Associates helped put infrastructure in place for the new taxi stations, one each on the East and West Banks of the Flats beneath the Main Avenue Bridge.
KS Associates provided design services and developed construction documents for the platform stations that serve passengers waiting to board the new 26-foot diesel-powered Crosby Yacht called the “eLCee2.” Our coastal engineering team also designed the floating docks, 40-foot-long ADA compliant ramps, 60 feet of sheet piling and stone revetment along the riverbanks, and an H-Pile foundation system comprised of 26 steel H Piles that were driven 35 feet below the river bottom to provide structural support for the docks and platforms.
KS Associates also assisted Cleveland Metroparks in obtaining the necessary permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to move the project forward, and provided oversight during construction. In April 2015, Cleveland Metroparks awarded the construction contract to Nerone and Sons, Inc.
The project is just one of several initiatives undertaken by Cleveland Metroparks to provide Cleveland residents and visitors greater access to the City’s lakefront and Cuyahoga River.
