KS Associates provided engineering services for enhancements to Euclid Beach that improved swimming conditions and beach stability. The project included the design of new submerged reef sills between existing detached breakwaters to reduce the amount of wave energy reaching the beach, re-grading the beach slope, and adding beach nourishment for shore protection.
The project required an Individual Section 404 Permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Section 401 Water Quality Certification from the Ohio EPA, and a Shore Structure Permit from ODNR. KS Associates has extensive experience with these types of permits, and led the permit preparation all on a highly accelerated schedule.
Design was completed in January 2016 and permitting was completed in May 2016. KS Associates also prepared final construction documents and provided construction administration services. Construction was completed by Nerone & Sons, Inc. at a cost of $560,000. The project was constructed in time for the beach to open in June 2016.
This is just one project that KS Associates delivered under a five-year, General Engineering Services contract with Cleveland Metroparks. Under the contract, KS Associates is providing coastal engineering expertise for various assignments throughout the park district.
