KS Associates collaborated with Coldwater Consulting LLC and the City of Lorain to develop and construct innovative solutions to improve in-stream habitat at the Lorain Sailing & Yacht Club. The goal of the project is to help restore an area of the Black River listed as an “Area of Concern” (AOC) by the U.S. EPA.
The project included replacing approximately 1,600 lineal feet of deteriorated steel sheet pile bulkhead. The bulkhead was designed to provide structurally stable support for a new fish habitat. The project includes design of a new retaining wall and fish habitat structures.
KS Associates’ scope of services included: preliminary planning, topographic and bathymetric surveys, coordinating the geotechnical investigation and diving inspection, site infrastructure assessments, preliminary structural design, design of fish habitat alternatives, design development, environmental permitting, detailed design, preparation of final construction drawings and specifications, cost estimating, bidding phase services, and construction administration.
Construction of the project was awarded to Huffman Equipment Rental and Contracting. KS Associates provided construction inspection services to ensure that materials, fabrication, and installation were in accordance with plans and specifications. At the City of Lorain’s request, KS Associates provided full-time inspection services to monitor the construction progress.
