KS Associates is consistently recognized by for delivering projects that have a high degree of innovation and value to our region, our clients, and our communities. The following awards recognize our team’s innovation, technical skill, and focus on client successes:
Ohio Nature-Based Shoreline Certification Program and Installation at Old Woman Creek – 2024 ACEC Ohio Outstanding Small Project Award
KS Associates was the lead engineering consultant for this project, under contract with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Office of Coastal Management. KS Coastal Engineers, in partnership with ecologists from GEI Consultants, developed a comprehensive training program — the first of its kind in Ohio — that certifies practitioners in the design and construction of living shorelines. The program included the installation of a living shoreline at Old Woman Creek State Nature preserve in Huron, Ohio. The project received the Outstanding Small Project Award, given to one company for a project with a construction budget of $2.5 million or less.
KS President Lynn S. Miggins, P.E. – ACEC Ohio Professional Service Award
In June 2023, ACEC Ohio honored Board Member and National Director Lynn Miggins, P.E., with a Professional Service Award for her distinguished contributions to the organization while serving as Alternate National Director (2017-2019) and National Director (2019-2023). According to Miggins, “It was my honor to serve ACEC Ohio in this capacity and as a Board Member for these past 13 years.”
City of Sandusky Cedar Point Causeway Wetlands Breakwater – 2023 ACEC National Recognition Award and ACEC Ohio Outstanding Achievement Award
KS Associates received recognition on both the national and state levels of the annual ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards program. The Cedar Point Causeway Wetlands Breakwater is the first fully constructed component of the larger Ohio Department of Natural Resources Sandusky Bay Initiative. The project resolves two challenges: the breakwater can contain up to 260,000 cubic yards – or two years’ worth – of dredge material that the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers can no longer dispose of in the open waters of Lake Erie. Importantly, the project beneficially reuses the dredge material to establish and restore up to 31 acres of coastal wetland habitat. Lessons learned from this pilot project are being applied to initiatives aimed at restoring Sandusky Bay, other Lake Erie harbors, and coastlines throughout the Great Lakes.
Cleveland Metroparks Wendy Park Bridge – 2022 ACEC National Recognition Award and ACEC Ohio Outstanding Achievement Award
The Wendy Park Bridge project received a National Recognition Award in the annual ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) competition — referred to as the “Academy Awards of the engineering industry.” the project was also one of eight that was chosen to receive an Outstanding Achievement Award – one tier up from an Honor Award – in the 2022 American Council of Engineering Companies of Ohio (ACEC Ohio) competition. The Wendy Park Bridge links more than 66,000 Cleveland residents to centers of employment, education, parks, and commerce, and provides a new link between downtown Cleveland and its lakefront.
The Port of Cleveland, Cleveland Bulk Terminal (CBT) – ACEC Ohio 2021 Honor Award
KS Associates received an Honor Award in the 2021 Engineering Excellence Awards competition sponsored by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Ohio (ACEC Ohio). KS Associates’ entry, the Multimodal Transportation Infrastructure Rehabilitation at the Port of Cleveland Bulk Terminal (CBT), was recognized for its innovation, complexity, and impact to the economy. KS Associates was the lead engineering consultant for the project, under contract with the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority (CCCPA).
Euclid Beach Pier for Cleveland Metroparks – ACEC Ohio 2020 Outstanding Small Project Award
KS Associates led the design of a new 315-foot-long pier at Euclid Beach Park. The pier offers spectacular views of the downtown Cleveland skyline, links the community to the lakefront, and helps to preserve the history of Cleveland’s beloved Euclid Beach amusement park and beach. The Outstanding Small Project award was given to the highest scoring project with a total project construction budget not exceeding $2.5 million.
Painesville Township Park Pier and Improvements for Lake Metroparks – ACEC Ohio 2019 Engineering Excellence Award
KS Associates led coastal engineering services for Lake Metroparks’ Painesville Township Park Pier and Improvements project. The showpiece of the project is the new fishing pier built atop a steel crib base filled with stone, which serves as a natural fish habitat to attract Lake Erie game fish. This shoreline restoration project provides park visitors of all abilities a way to safely access and enjoy Lake Erie.
Highbridge Road Bridge, City of Vermilion – ASHE Lake Erie Section – 2018 Outstanding Transportation Project Award
KS Associates’ Highbridge Road Bridge project won a 2018 Outstanding Transportation Project Award in the “Under $10 Million in Construction” category. The project bridges a gap on Highbridge Road — the newly constructed bridge carries traffic over active Norfolk Southern rail, greatly improving emergency response time and access to the City’s growing commercial corridor on U.S. Route 6/Liberty Avenue.
LOR-57-19.42 Corridor Improvement, ODOT District 3 – ACEC Ohio 2018 Honor Award
KS Associates’ LOR-57-19.42 Corridor Improvement project for ODOT District 3 won an Honor Award in the 2018 ACEC Ohio Engineering Excellence Awards competition. The project was recognized for its innovation, achievement, and value.
LOR-57-19.42 Corridor Improvement, ODOT District 3 – ASHE Lake Erie Section – 2016 Outstanding Transportation Project Award
KS Associates won the 2016 Outstanding Transportation Project Award from the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) Lake Erie Section. KS Associates’ project, the LOR-57-19.42 Corridor Improvement Project, received the award due to its complexity, innovation, and benefit to the traveling public.
Surveying for the Re-design and Re-construction of Cleveland Public Square – ACEC Ohio 2017 Outstanding Achievement Award
KS Associates won an Outstanding Achievement Award in the 2017 ACEC Ohio Engineering Excellence Awards competition. KS Associates’ project, Surveying for the Redesign and Reconstruction of Cleveland Public Square, was recognized for demonstrating a high degree of uniqueness, ingenuity, and complexity.
Lynn S. Miggins, P.E, WTS Northeast Ohio Leadership Award
Lynn is the recipient of the annual WTS Northeast Ohio Leadership Award. This award was established to recognize and honor individuals who have exhibited outstanding leadership in the transportation community by promoting the advancement of women in transportation.

ENR Midwest 2015 Best Projects Competition – Merit Award
KS Associates provided extensive surveying services for the Norfolk Southern Moorman Rail Yard Expansion Project in Bellevue, Ohio. The project won an Award of Merit in the category of Airports/Transit in ENR’s Midwest regional competition. KS provided services as a subconsultant to lead design firm Michael Baker Jr. Inc. and to construction management firm STV, Inc. ASCE Cleveland Section – 2015 Outstanding Engineer of the Year Award
Lynn S. Miggins, P.E., President of KS Associates, was chosen as the recipient of the 2015 Outstanding Civil Engineer of the Year Award by the Cleveland Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). The award annually recognizes a civil engineer who has prominence in the community and who has worked hard to advance the civil engineering profession.
Elyria YWCA 2013 Women of Achievement Award
Lynn S. Miggins, P.E., President of KS Associates, was among an elite group of women recognized by the Elyria YWCA with the 2013 Women of Achievement Award. The award was established to honor women who have made substantial inroads toward eliminating racism and empowering women.
Cleveland Engineering Society (CES) Hall of Fame
Lynn S. Miggins, P.E., President of KS Associates, received the Cleveland Engineering Society (CES) Hall of Fame Award, the highest award given to an individual by the Society. The award is presented to engineers or design/construction professionals to honor outstanding achievements or careers. Recipients must demonstrate a track record of working toward the betterment of professional efforts. They must also have made outstanding contributions to the profession, the public welfare, and/or humankind.
Crain’s Cleveland Business 2005 Women of Note
Lynn S. Miggins, P.E., President of KS Associates, was named to the Crain’s Cleveland Business Women of Note, an editorial feature highlighting the accomplishments of women in Northeast Ohio.
