KS Associates is under contract with Cleveland Metroparks to provide engineering and surveying services under a five-year general engineering services contract (2020-2024). This is KS Associates’ second five-year general engineering services with Cleveland Metroparks. The completion of the second contract will mark a decade-long partnership with Cleveland Metroparks. Tasks have included:
New Boat Docks at Merwin’s Wharf/Rivergate Park and Heritage Park along the Cuyahoga River – KS is designing new transient docks and access ramps along the Cuyahoga River at Merwin’s Wharf in Rivergate Park and at Heritage Park. The scope of services includes surveying, dredge material sampling and testing, above-ground and underwater structural inspections, preliminary design, permitting, and preparing construction documents. The Heritage Park work includes the design of an armor stone revetment.
New Water Taxi Stations on the Cuyahoga River – When Cleveland Metroparks wanted to re-start the water taxi service on the Cuyahoga River, it called on KS Associates to design the needed infrastructure. KS Associates performed engineering for a floating dock, sheet piling, revetment, dredging, and H-pile design. Work included preparing a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers permit application, preparing final construction documents, and performing construction administration services. The water taxis were operational in May 2016.
Perkins Beach Improvements, Edgewater Park – KS Associates assisted Cleveland Metroparks with improvements to Perkins Beach at Edgewater Park. This project involved a hydrographic and topographic survey of the Lake Erie shoreline, west of Edgewater Beach; soil borings and sand samples; design of new armor stone groins to replace five concrete modular piers at the beach. Construction was completed in 2017.
Euclid Beach Swim Area Improvements – KS designed new submerged breakwater sills to connect existing detached breakwaters at Euclid Beach/Villa Angela Park. The project includes re-grading of the beach slope and placement of sand pre-fill as beach nourishment. The purpose of the project is to reduce wave energy to improve beach stability and swimming conditions at the park. The project was completed in time for the upcoming swimming season.
New Fishing Pier and Retaining Walls at Euclid Beach Lakefront Park – KS Associates provided engineering and surveying services at Euclid Beach Lakefront Park. The project called for demolishing concrete remnants of the old Euclid Beach Pier and constructing a new fishing pier. KS Associates performed a hydrographic and topographic survey, obtained soil borings on land, obtained permitting, and designed the new fishing pier.
E. 55th Street Marina Improvements – KS Associates developed preliminary design plans and final construction documents for dock improvements at the marina. Services included design, permitting, and construction administration.
