KS Associates completed in-depth bridge inspection, surveying, and 3D laser scanning services for the MOT IR 75 10.44 Bridge over Carillon Blvd. and the Great Miami River. The goal of the project was to replace all eight spans of the bridge deck (900 feet) with new composite reinforced concrete decks to enhance safety and provide a long-term maintenance solution. KS provided services to E. L. Robinson, Inc., ODOT’s lead bridge design consultant.
Laser scanning captured details of the entire bridge span from the river banks. Scanning of the bridge deck was performed from the shoulders on an early Saturday morning, before traffic volumes began to build, thereby improving data quality. Mobile LiDAR was also performed to gather pavement and sign locations on the busy freeway, which eliminated the need to close lanes to safely conduct the survey.
KS Associates performed an inspection of the major components of the bridge, including the decks, parapets, back walls, piers and foundation. The findings were presented in a Bridge Inspection Report prepared for ODOT and the design team, which served as the basis for construction plans and specifications.
