Linwood Park is a private residential community located along the shore of Lake Erie in Vermilion, Ohio. The park has approximately 150 cottages occupied by a few year-round residents and vacationers. The park has been in operation since 1884 when it was built as a vacation resort area.
With Lake Erie experiencing near record-high water levels and other littoral processes, the park is losing is most important asset — the beach.
KS Associates’ coastal engineers are working with Linwood Park Company to study the problem and develop solutions to bring the beach back. Our coastal engineers proposed constructing three offshore armor stone breakwaters that will protect the shoreline by intercepting waves, lessening the intensity of wave action.
KS Associates is coordinating the regulatory process, working with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, to obtain permits to move the project forward.
Construction of the breakwaters will commence when all regulatory authorizations are received.
The project was featured in the June 21, 2019, issue of the Morning Journal.
