KS Associates provided construction administration and observation services for the West River Road Lift Station and Force Main Improvements and Griswold Road Sewer Extension project. Bay Mechanical was awarded this $1.5 million contract aimed at improving the City of Elyria’s sanitary sewer system and reducing maintenance costs. KS Associates provided full-time project representation, acting as the City’s eyes and ears at the site.
The project had three primary components: a major lift station rehabilitation, a force main replacement, and a gravity sanitary sewer extension. A portion of the gravity sanitary sewer is constructed on an above-ground pipe bridge. The gravity sewer had to be constructed and tested prior to the start of the lift station and force main in order to accept bypass flow during force main construction.
KS Associates’ role in the project included reviewing shop drawings and submittals, observing construction, preparing daily reports, reviewing pay applications, and observing structural tests. KS Associates closely monitored construction activities to assure that the contractor did not encroach on a sensitive waterway.
With KS on the job, the City knew it had a critical communication link connecting the many project stakeholders, including the contractor, subcontractors, suppliers, residents, and the traveling public.
